Velvet is a type of woven fabric in which the cut threads are evenly distributed and that can be obtained from any natural or artificial fiber.
Velvet is a costy production fabric as a result it always has been associated to nobility. Velvet luxurious clothings were used by kings and high classes as a distinctive sign. Although velvet origins are in some antique oriental cultures, it came to us through medieval italian traders.
The origins of velvet date back to antiquity, as even the ancient Egyptians made a similar fabric. However, it only reached our Western culture via Italy in the late Middle Ages.
